A cool day at work.

I work for Camp Fire USA these days, in an after-school program for kindergarteners and first graders.  Right now, I'm teaching a unit on birds, for which I am coming up with my own curriculum and craft projects.

The other day, we had a woman from the Oregon Zoo come to give a talk about birds, and she brought two live "specimens," Louie the Runner Duck, and Rosita the Screech Owl!  Some days my job is really fun.

Louie wiggled his tail a lot.

The kids got to hold realistic replicas of bird skulls, like this woodpecker skull, and a toucan skull (below).

 Here's Rosita!

Some artwork by by the kids in response to the visit:
The red dot on the left represents Louie's poop.  He pooped during the presentation.  The kids went nuts.

(I drew this one.)
